News Rant: Nomura Says to Keep Waiting

Be warned, there are some spoilers ahead.

I understand that games take a while to create and publish.  I really do!  There's a lot that goes into creating games and a lot of people who need to work together to get it all done.  There's money involved, there's time involved, there may even be some hair pulling and eye gouging in the eleventh hour.  But Tetsuya Nomura says we need to keep waiting for Final Fantasy Versus XIII- a game that was started all the way back in 2006.  2006!



Now I don't know about you but that seems like a long, long time to wait for a game that supposedly has a battle system, characters, and at least two environments.  Most of the news we get from Nomura concerning the game is exactly what he's stated in his new interview with Famitsu.  Just keep waiting!  "We'll have information soon!  This is totally a game!"  Yeah.  Sure.

We got a sequel to Final Fantasy XIII-2 in about as much time as it takes to make a Big Mac yet this game is just floating around the Square-Enix offices.  Maybe it's in that Cloud everyone keeps talking about.  (I know that's not the case.  That'd just be silly.)  In any event, I'd like to see this game at some point because it just looks fun.  It's coming off as a sort of "grown up" Kingdom Hearts considering it's battle system and the person in charge is Nomura.  Plus it just looks so damn pretty.

Problem is this is sort of what Nomura's become lately.  He kind of trolls us with almost everything he's attached to.  Look at The World Ends With You when it was ported to iOS.  There was that countdown website that made it seem like we were getting a sequel!  Then we got the port.  But wait!  There's that secret screen in the game that hints at a sequel!  Of course the same thing occurred in Kingdom Hearts 3D.  Flying through the gold letters during the credits got you the secret message about a new number.  That number turned out to be a 1.5 and not the great, big 3 that the game pretty much leads up to.  We could have seen it coming though.  The little cryptic message was less cryptic as it was yelling out, "HD Re-release!"

Quite frankly, I'm not sure I even believe this so-called Final Fantasy Versus XIII game exists.  It may just be another troll attempt by Nomura in which he'll announce that it was all a hoax and that even he doesn't exist at next year's Tokyo Game Show.  That or Sqaure will fold the game into Final Fantasy XV and be done with it.

Sadness.
